Background

The National Young Women Charitable Organization (NYWCO) is an Ethiopian youth-led organization whose goal is to economically empower young women and returnees, both groups of which have limited access to employment opportunities and are underserved by traditional forms of entrepreneurship training.

Le'hager teamed up with NYWCO to develop and provide a training session tailored specifically to their context, designed to create business models that are able to survive market challenges instead of simply conveying theoretical knowledge about entrepreneurship.

The Challenge

It was clear that participants needed something more than a template for creating a business plan. Many of them joined the training with a lack of experience when it comes to business planning and digital tools in general – young women and returnees who created their livelihoods and were not used to formal ways of doing that. They needed practice, not just the framework for action.

Le'hager’s approach Le'hager provided a 5-day in-person training with three pillars of entrepreneurship knowledge integration:

Business model development: teaching the logic behind a good business model and applying that knowledge on real-life examples instead of theoretical cases so that the participants learn how to make decisions when developing their business.

Entrepreneurial mindset & skills: developing the mindset that will make the difference between survival and failure of a business model when it comes into contact with the market.

Digital marketing tools & strategies: providing participants with actual tools that will enable them to attract potential clients online.
